چکیده

The existence of compact dimensions which are accessible only to gravity represents an intriguing possible solution to the hierarchy problem. At present the strongest constraint on the existence of such compact Gravity-Only Dimensions (GODs) comes from SN 1987a. Here we report on the first self-consistent simulations of the early, neutrino-emitting phase of a proto-neutron star which include energy losses due to the coupling of the Kaluza-Klein modes of the graviton which arise in a world with GODs. We compare the neutrino signals from these simulations to that from SN 1987a and use a rigorous probabilistic analysis to derive improved bounds for the radii of such GODs. We find that the possibility that there are two compact extra dimensions with radii larger than 0.66 μm is excluded at the 95% confidence level—as is the possibility that there are three compact extra dimensions larger than 0.8 nm. 1 E-mail: [email protected] 2 E-mail: [email protected] 3 E-mail: [email protected] 4 E-mail: [email protected] Preprint submitted to Elsevier Preprint 5 February 2008

Train Scheduling Problem with Consideration of Praying Constraint as an Application of Job Shop Scheduling Problem

The present paper extends the idea of job shop scheduling problem with resting constraints to the train scheduling problem with the Muslim praying considerations. For this purpose, after proposing the new mathematical model, a heuristic algorithm based on the Electromagnetism-Like algorithm (EM) which is well adjusted to scheduling problems is employed to solve the large-size practical cases. Large lepton mixing and supernova 1987A

We reconsider the impact of ν̄e ↔ ν̄μ,τ neutrino oscillations on the observed ν̄e signal of supernova SN 1987A. Performing a maximum-likelihood analysis using as fit parameters the released binding energy Eb and the average neutrino energy 〈Eν̄e〉, we find as previous analyses that ν̄e ↔ ν̄μ,τ oscillations with large mixing angles have lower best-fit values for 〈Eν̄e〉 than small-mixing angle (SMA) osci...

Quranic way of presenting proofs for God`s existence

Regardless of the view of those philosophers like Plantinga who see no need in any proof for the existence of God, scholars have presented four views on Quranic way of proving the existence of God including demonstration, awakening, implication and clear demonstration. Describing and criticizing the views in detail, the author has viewed differently. God has regarded the level of the addressee`...

Could the compact remnant of SN 1987 A be a quark star ?

The standard model for Type II supernovae explosion, confirmed by the detection of the neutrinos emitted during the supernova explosion, predicts the formation of a compact object, usually assumed to be a neutron star. However, the lack of the detection of a neutron star or pulsar formed in the SN 1987A still remains an unsolved mystery. In this paper we suggest that the newly formed neutron st...
